The Rutherford Cancer Centre, Northumberland
Proton Partners recently received £450,000 investment from regional growth fund programme, Let’s Grow North East, for its second centre. Northumberland cancer centre.
Situated at the Earth Balance wellness site in Bomarsund, Northumberland, the site will be the second to be built by Proton Partners International in the UK.
Work on the second centre began in August 2016. The centre will be able to treat up to 500 patients every year and, in addition to proton beam therapy, will offer imaging, chemotherapy, traditional radiotherapy and well-being. The centre is expected to be operational by February 2018.

In October 2016, Proton Partners International Ltd submitted a formal planning application to build its third proton beam therapy centre in the UK located at the Thames Valley Science Park in Reading, Berkshire.
The Reading centre will include facilities for proton beam therapy, a linear accelerator, as well as CT suite and an MRI. It is expected that the centre will be able to treat up to 500 patients every year.
The Thames Valley Science Park is part of The University of Reading’s plans to build a £36 million science park which aims to create up to 5,000 jobs and provide 800,000 sq ft of laboratory and office space.
